State police say gang-related tensions led to a stabbing at George Junior in Mercer County.
According to police, the incident happened last Monday, when a 17-year-old boy went into a 15-year-old’s room and stabbed him repeatedly in the head and arms.
The victim suffered minor cuts and puncture wounds, but his injuries weren’t considered life-threatening.
George Junior however didn’t report the incident to police until Saturday. And when police interviewed the 17-year-old, he said he initially wanted to kill the victim, but opted against it after deciding he wouldn’t have protection from fellow gang members in prison.
The 17-year-old also said he is a member of the “Mexican Mafia” street gang, and that the stabbing was related to gang tensions.
The Mercer County District Attorney said that due to the alarming details in the incident, the 17-year-old will be charged as an adult.
He is currently in the Mercer County Prison.
