–The North Catholic girls defeated Freedom 48-43 to win the Class 3A championship at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh. It was the North Catholic’s fifth title in the past six years and 21st overall. Head coach Molly Rottman has now won 10 WPIAL championships in her career, becoming the second girls coach in league history to reach that mark. Alaya Rocco led North Catholic with 15 points.
The Knoch girls will face undefeated Blackhawk in the 4A championship game Saturday at 3pm at the Petersen Events Center. Pre-game begins at 2:30pm on WISR, with Scott Briggs visiting with Knights head coach Chris Andreassi. He will be joined for the call of the game by former Knoch head coach Dr. Curt Vasas.
The Knoch game is one of six championship games Saturday at “The Pete”. The day will be capped off with the Boys 6A championship game between undefeated North Hills and Fox Chapel at 7pm. North Hills enters the game 24-0. Fox Chapel is 23-1.
Four games are being played today at the Petersen Events Center today.
