High School Sports from Monday:
Girls Soccer:
Butler and North Allegheny tied at 1-1 in overtime. Butler is now 9-4-1 overall and visit Seneca Valley Wednesday for their final section match prior to the playoffs. The tie was big for the Golden Tornado, because it knocked North Allegheny out of the playoffs.
Seneca Valley-2 Pine-Richland-0.
Freeport-5 Springdale-0. Five different goal scorers for the Yellow Jackets, who improved to 10-0 in section play. They can clinch their first section title since 2006 Wednesday with a win over Highlands.
Mars-1 Knoch-0.
Girls Golf:
Shady Side Academy won the semi-final round of the WPIAL Class 3A team playoffs in Murrysville. North Allegheny finished runner-up. Butler was fourth. They, along with Peters Township, who were third, move on to the WPIAL championship this Thursday at Cedarbrook Golf Course.
Girls Volleyball:
Avonworth-3 Butler-1. (25-17, 23-25, 25-13, 25-20). Julia Gibson had eight kills for Butler. Maria Lucas had four kills and 15 digs.
Butler will host Pine-Richland tonight – for the annual “Dig Pink” night to raise funds for breast cancer.
Freeport-3 Knoch-1.
Seneca Valley-3 Mt. Lebanon-0.
Butler Girls Tennis team fell in the first round of the WPIAL Triple-A section singles championship Monday. Butler’s #1-singles player Savana Turner fell to Hampton’s Abby Miller 10-4. Butler’s #2-singles player Sydney Hanratty lost to Cam Beer of Moon 10-4.
