Ross Chastain won the Coca-Cola 600 Nascar Cup Series race Sunday night in Charlotte. Chastain started at the rear of the field following a practice accident, but drove past William Byron late in Nascar’s longest race of the season for the victory.
Alex Palou won the Indianapolis 500 Sunday. The driver for western Pennsylvania native Chip Ganassi had won four of the first five IndyCar races already this season and is the two-time defending IndyCar champion. It was his first Indy 500 victory and he becomes the first driver from Spain to win the race.
The start of the Sunday race was delayed by rain, but did not stop Kyle Larson from running both the Indy 500 and the Nascar race. He failed to complete the racing “double” when he crashed midway through the Indy race. He also crashed in Charlotte and finished 37th.
