The Butler high school baseball team has reached the state championship game for the first time in program history following a 4-2 victory Monday against Owen J. Roberts high school in Bellefonte. Kyle Casteel pitched a complete game to improve to 10-0 for the Golden Tornado. Boden Lenyk led the Golden Tornado with three hits, including a two-run home run. Trent Best drove home the other two Butler runs.
Butler has now won 16 games in a row, they are 23-3 this season.
Butler will meet Neshaminy in the PIAA Class 6A title game Thursday in State College. Game time is 4:30pm.
There were three other WPIAL teams who have reached state baseball championship games. Indiana, South Park and Eden Christian will all play in State College later this week.
Hempfield, Blackhawk, Sharon and Shaler were among the softball teams to reach PIAA championship games. Those title games will also be played at Penn State. Shaler had to go to 11-innings to defeat Thomas Jefferson 5-3 late last night. The Titans get Abington Heights Thursday morning.
