The Pittsburgh Pirates were very active re-shaping their bullpen at the Major League Baseball trade deadline Monday – and they defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 to open a four-game series.
Spencer Horwitz had a key three-run double which cleared the bases in the third inning.
Starting pitcher Bubba Chandler earned the victory. He held the Brewers without a hit until two outs in the fifth inning. He pitched into the sixth inning, allowing two earned runs.
The Pirates bullpen pitched 3-1/3rd scoreless innings, with Mason Montgomery striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth inning for his third save.
The Pirates defeated the first-place Brewers for the sixth time in seven games this season.
The two teams play again tonight at 7:40pm. WISR pre-game begins at 7:15pm.
