The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-0 last night in exhibition hockey. Sergei Murashov started in net for the Pens, and allowed three goals on 16 shots. The Red Wings scored an empty-net goal in the game’s final three minutes.
The Pens visit Buffalo for a 3pm face-off Saturday to complete their pre-season. They open the regular season Wednesday in Philadelphia.
Penguins winger Andrei Kuzmenko has left the team to return to Russia and be with his family, after his father was killed by a bear while on a fishing trip this week. The incident happened in southern Siberia. Kuzmenko is a former 39-goal scorer in the NHL, whom the Penguins signed to a one-year, $5 million deal in the off-season. His 62-year old father was a hockey coach in Russia, who got his son involved in the sport.
