The Butler Area School District will receive money from the state to help with the installation of special gardens at elementary schools.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection recently announced the district has been awarded a $5,000 Environmental Education grant.
The money will go towards the “BASD STEELS Implementation” project to engage at least 500 students in outdoor hands-on learning experiences utilizing the Nature Trail at Connoquenessing Elementary.
Over $1 million was awarded to accomplish a total of 68 projects across the state as part of this program. The money comes from 5% of the pollution fines and penalties the DEP collects annually.
