A law aiming to help protect student athletes in Pennsylvania will be heading to senate committees after passing the state house with bipartisan support.
Requiring AEDs at School Athletic Events, H.B. 191, would require an AED at all interscholastic events, require schools to provide CPR and AED instructions to employees and volunteers, and develop a cardiac emergency response plan for schools and athletic activities.
Supporters of the bill reference the 2023 cardiac arrest former Pittsburgh resident Damar Hamlin had while playing for the Buffalo Bills.
The bill passed the state house 169-33 and will now move to senate committees before a vote on the senate floor.
