Butler high school head basketball coach Matt Clement has announced he is stepping down after 17 seasons and one WPIAL title. His Golden Tornado teams made the WPIAL playoffs in 14 of his 17 seasons. He ends his time at Butler with a 248-148 overall record.
Clement played for the Butler basketball program under coach Mark Jula before having an impressive major league baseball career. After retiring from baseball, Matt returned to coach at his alma mater and had three sons play for the Golden Tornado.
Also stepping down from his head coaching job is Jim Rocco at North Catholic. Rocco led the Trojans to two WPIAL titles and a state championship after five seasons. In his 29-year coaching career, Rocco has 411 victories.
