Butler Township commissioners have filled a new law enforcement position in the municipality.
The commissioners approved a motion at their Monday night meeting to hire John Herold as Deputy Chief of Police.
Herold is a former Navy Gulf War Veteran who retired from Troop D of the Pennsylvania State Police as a Lieutenant Patrol Section Commander last January. He has also been a longtime volunteer firefighter for Butler Township.
This position is needed to accommodate the increase in the size of the department as well as improve the chain of command. As Deputy Chief, Herold will be responsible for internal investigations, day-to-day operations, and reporting system accuracy.
