It has been more than one year since the Herman Post Office flooded and Summit Township officials are looking for answers.
The building is owned not by the federal government but a landlord. According to Summit Township, the building has failed three inspection for mold and safety issues.
The owner of the building has not talked to the township but have they have been provided updates from Rep. Mike Kelly’s office.
Since the closing of the Herman post office residents have to go to the Butler Post Office. They cannot go in through the front of the building, but instead have to ring a bell in the back and then they can receive their mail. This option is only open until 3:30 p.m.
“It’s okay for someone who is physically fit or healthy, but we have a lot of residents who are elderly or disabled so this is a lot for them to do,” Roxann Stickney, Zoning Officer for Summit Township said.
The Herman Volunteer Fire Department has offered to host the post office in the office space they have available until a location is available. But they have not heard back from the post office about potentially using the space.
