The Pennsylvania Independent Fiscal Office has released a study that shows older Pennsylvanians are the largest growing population.
The study says that retirees, ages 65 to 79, represent the largest increase in population of the last five years at 13.4 percent. This increase is expected to continue by 3.4 percent over the next five years.
The largest decline has been the working-ages of 20 to 64, which declined 2.1 percent in the last five years. In the next five years a gain of 1.5 percent is expected but the state is still projected to lose just over a half percent of this age group’s population.
Residents ages 80 to 84 are expected to see a 29 percent increase of residents over the next five years which is the largest increase amoung all ages.
