The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2 last night. The Pirates bats were sluggish for the second straight night, earning just three hits. Endy Rodriguez drove in the Pirates’ runs with a two-run home run in the seventh inning. It was his second home run in as many nights. Paul Skenes took the loss, allowing three earned runs on just two hits. He walked four and struck out six.
Skenes record has now fallen to 9-10 this season. His ERA has climbed to 3.96.
Newly acquired reliever Lake Bachar pitched two innings in relief of Skenes. He allowed a solo home run in the sixth inning.
The Pirates’ season-long struggle against left-handed starting pitchers continued. The Bucs struck out 14 times in the game. Brewers starting pitcher Kyle Harrison struck out the final eight Pirates he faced in the game. He allowed one hit while striking out a total of 10 Pirates, in his first game since July 8th after being placed on the Injured List due to left forearm tightness.
The Pirates are now 57-59 overall, and have fallen to 4-1/2 games back in the chase for a National League Wild Card.
The Bucs and Brewers complete their series this afternoon at 2:10pm. WISR pre-game is 1:45pm.
The Pirates return home to host the New York Mets this weekend in a three-game series.
