The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the San Diego Padres 6-4 Sunday evening. The Bucs blew a 4-2 lead when reliever Tanner Rainey allowed four runs, on a hit and three walks in the seventh inning. Andrew McCutchen and Adam Frazier hit home runs for the Pirates.
The McCutchen home run ties him with Pirates legend Roberto Clemente for third all-time in franchise history with 240.
The Padres won the series after taking Friday’s game 3-2 despite being outhit by the Pirates 7-3.
The Pirates shutout San Diego 5-0 Saturday. Bailey Falter earned the victory, pitching into the seventh inning, allowing just two hits. Falter completed the month of May with a 0.76 ERA over 35-2/3rds innings.
The Pirates are off today. They open a nine-game home-stand Tuesday with the first of three games with the Houston Astros.
