The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago White Sox 9-3 last night in their opening game of a three-game series. The Bucs took an early lead with a five-run first inning by sending 10 batters to the plate and starting pitcher Bubba Chandler retired the first 12 White Sox batters.
Chandler improved to 7-9 by going six full innings. He allowed two runs on four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out eight.
The Bucs had 18 hits in the game, led by three hits each from Oneil Cruz and Rafael Flores, Jr. Spencer Horwitz drove in three runs. Konnor Griffin led the game off with a double and had his first hits since returning from the injured list.
The Bucs visit the White Sox again tonight at 7:40pm. WISR pre-game begins at 7:15pm. Lake Bachar will open the game tonight for the Pirates.
Ryan O’Hearn began a rehab assignment last night with Triple-A Indianapolis. He had a double in three at-bats and played seven innings at first base. He could return to the Pirates this weekend against the Cubs.
