The Houston Astros defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-2 last night, after a lengthy rain delay at PNC Park. The Astros tagged Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller for six runs. He pitched into the seventh inning, striking out five, but gave up eight hits. Jared Triolo scored both runs for the Bucs, and had their only extra-base hit, a double. The Pirates managed only four other singles and struck out a season-high 16 times in the game.
Houston starting pitcher Framber Valdez earned his fifth consecutive victory, striking out 11 Pirates over his seven innings.
The Pirates open a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies tonight at 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm. Bailey Falter will start for the Bucs.
