The Pittsburgh Pirates came away with a series win yesterday after a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Starter Andrew Heaney went five innings, allowing just one run. The bullpen combined for four scoreless innings, with Dennis Santana picking up his 5th save of the season.
It was also a season-best day for former first round pick Henry Davis. He went 2-2 with an RBI. The Pirates combined for 9 hits in the win. However, the notorious streak of scoring under 4 runs a game went to 26. That ties the 1969 California Angels and 1931 Boston Braves for the longest of the modern era.
The Pirates begin a four game series with the Milwaukee Brewers today. First pitch at 6:40 p.m. on WISR.
The Pirates also announced yesterday that starting pitcher Jared Jones underwent surgery to repair his UCL in his right elbow. They estimated his timetable 10 to 12 months.
