The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Arizona Diamondacks 1-0 last night. Paul Skenes pitched eight innings allowing just two hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out seven. Gregory Soto earned his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning. The only run of the game came on a Brandon Lowe home run in the first inning. It was his ninth of the season.
In 2025, all of the Pirates second baseman combined for the season had a total of eight home runs.
Skenes improved to 5-2 this season and lowered his ERA to 2.36.
The Pirates and Diamondbacks complete their series this afternoon at 3:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 3:15pm. Mitch Keller will start for the Bucs, who head to San Francisco for a weekend series after today’s game. The Pirates are now 20-17 this season.
The Chicago Cubs won their eighth game in a row last night with a 7-6 win over Cincinnati in 10-innings. It was the Cubs third straight walk-off win. The Cubs are now tied with the New York Yankees for the second-best record in baseball at 25-12. The Atlanta Braves are 26-12 and have the best overall record.
The Cubs have lost starting pitcher Matthew Boyd to the Injured List for the second time this season. Boyd suffered a knee injury Wednesday morning at home playing with his children. He will need surgery and will be out an undetermined amount of time.
Houston star infielder Carlos Correa tore a tendon in his left ankle during a pre-game batting practice Tuesday, and will miss the rest of the season.
