The Pittsburgh Pirates completed a three-game series sweep of the Minnesota Twins following a 9-3 victory Sunday. Braxton Ashcraft struck out 11 batters over six innings and earned the victory. Ryan O’Hearn returned from the Injured List and hit his eighth home run of the year in the second inning. He had two hits in the game. Nick Gonzales hit his first home run of the year in the third inning.
Ashcraft improved to 5-2 this spring with a 2.89 ERA, which leads the team.
The Pirates defeated the Twins 10-9 Saturday and 6-5 Friday night. After an off-day today, they begin a six-game road trip in Houston Tuesday.
The Pirates are now 32-28 and tied with the Cubs for third place in the National League Central. They are also tied with the Cubs and Arizona for the final N.L. Wild Card spot.
