Congressman Mike Kelly is supporting an effort to bring in federal money to help complete the Route 228 project.
Kelly wrote a letter to the Department of Transportation in support of the county’s effort to secure nearly $61 million in federal grants for the final stretch of construction on Route 228.
The money would go toward an estimated $122 million project to expand the stretch of Route 228 in between Franklin Road to Pittsburgh Street in Mars.
“The Gateway 228 project is in the homestretch, and this funding will help to complete this final portion of roadway connecting communities across southern Butler County,” Kelly said in a statement. “From Cranberry Township to Valencia, completing work along Route 228 is essential for local residents and local businesses. I want to thank Secretary Duffy and the Trump administration for supporting this vital project over the years. I look forward to seeing the final product soon.”
Kelly previously helped secure two federal grants worth $45 million that went to the Gateway 228 project.
