The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-6 last night. Paul Skenes gave up a career-high eight runs, seven earned over just four innings. He struck out five, but gave up two home runs.
The Bucs battled back from another early 5-0 deficit, but the Phillies put the game away with a two-run home run off reliever Dennis Santana in the eighth inning.
Nick Gonzales led the Pirates with three hits. He is now batting .300 again for the season. Henry Davis hit his seventh home run of the year. The Pirates actually out-hit the Phillies, but left 11 men on base.
With the loss, the Bucs fell to 43-44 this season. They are now 11-1/2 games behind first-place Milwaukee and three games out of a Wild Card spot.
The two teams complete their series today at 12:35pm. WISR pre-game begins at 12:10pm. Jared Jones will start for the Bucs.
The Pirates open a three-game series in Washington Friday night.
