The Pittsburgh Pirates open a three-game series with the Atlanta Braves tonight at PNC Park. First pitch is 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm.
Paul Skenes will start tonight’s game for the Bucs. He is 6-8 this season with a 3.62 ERA. Hurston Waldrep will start for the Braves. It will be just the third start of the season for him.
Tonight’s game will be the first of two appearances for Skenes in two key series prior to the All-Star break. Skenes is also scheduled to pitch in Sunday’s game against Milwaukee.
The Braves enter tonight’s series with the fourth-best record in baseball at 52-37. They lead the Philadelphia Phillies by three games in the NL East. Miami is four games back. The Phillies and Marlins are two of the three NL Wild Card teams currently, along with the Chicago Cubs. The Pirates are currently three games back in the Wild Card.
