The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Atlanta Braves 12-4 last night in the opening game of a three-game series at PNC Park. Pirates first baseman Ryan O’Hearn set a franchise record by driving in the Pirates first 10 runs of the game. He hit three home runs and ended the night with four hits.
Paul Skenes earned his seventh win of the season. He went six innings, allowing eight hits, but just two runs. Skenes walked one and struck out four.
The two teams meet again tonight at 6:40pm. WISR pre-game is 6:15pm.
Prior to Tuesday’s game, the Pirates learned rookie shortstop Konnor Griffin would be returning to the Injured List. Griffin tore a tendon in his left ring finger making a diving catch in Washington over the weekend, and will miss the next eight to 10 weeks. That could take him out of the Pirates lineup until the first of September. The Pirates are already down hitters Spencer Horwitz, Oneil Cruz and Endy Rodriguez. Horwitz and Cruz are also on the IL, Rodriguez is day-to-day with a hip injury, also suffered in Washington.
