The Atlanta Braves defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-0 last night at PNC Park. Pirates starting pitcher Jared Jones had a perfect game through six innings before being removed after throwing 77 pitches. He had struck out eight of the 18 batters he faced.
Jones continues to be on a close pitch count as he progresses from his return after major arm surgery.
Mason Montgomery allowed the Braves their first hit in the seventh inning. Dennis Santana took the loss when he allowed a two-run home run to former Pirates catcher Joey Bart in the eighth inning. Atlanta ended the night with five hits.
The Pirates managed just four hits off five Braves pitchers. All of their hits were singles. The Bucs left seven men on base.
The two teams complete their series this afternoon at 12:35pm. WISR pre-game begins at 12:10pm. Mitch Keller will start for the Pirates. He is 6-6 this season with a 5.02 ERA.
The Milwaukee Brewers arrive for a three-game series tomorrow night.
Prior to Wednesday’s game, the Pirates placed catcher Endy Rodriguez on the Injured List with a muscle strain. They called up Rafael Flores to take his spot.
