The Cincinnati Reds defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-2 Sunday afternoon. Mitch Keller lasted just two innings, allowing seven earned runs on six hits. He walked four. The Pirates managed just four hits in the game. Two of the hits were from shortstop Jacob Gonzales.
Keller’s record fell to 6-8 and he now has a 5.29 ERA this season.
The Bucs had snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory Saturday, but the Reds took three of four games in their series. Braxton Ashcraft allowed one run on two hits over his five innings in that game. ‘
The Reds won the Friday night game 8-7. Paul Skenes allowed five earned runs on seven hits over just four innings.
The Reds totaled 31 hits in their three weekend victories.
The Bucs begin another four-game series tonight in Milwaukee. First pitch is 7:40pm. WISR pre-game begins at 7:15pm. Bubba Chandler will start for the Pirates.
The Major League Baseball trade deadline is 6pm tonight.
The Pirates traded two prospects over the weekend to the New York Yankees in exchange for right-handed reliever Camilo Doval. The Pirates sent catching prospect Omar Alfonzo and Dominican Summer League outfielder Luis Cruz to the Yankees for the 29-year old Doval, who had been the closer in San Francisco, but has struggled in a setup role for Yankees closer David Bednar since being acquired by New York at last year’s deadline.
Doval made his first appearance in the eighth inning of last night’s game, and gave up a solo home run.
The Pirates lost first baseman/outfielder Ryan O’Hearn for six to eight weeks after he suffered a right quad strain late in Friday’s loss. He was placed on the Injured List. Spencer Horwitz returned Sunday from the Injured List and took over first base. He was hitless in two at-bats with two strikeouts.
