The Pirates cut ties with designated hitter Marcel Ozuna Wednesday, officially releasing the 35-year old veteran slugger. The Pirates had signed the former three-time All-Star to a one-year $12 million deal in February, with a mutual option for 2027. He batted just .203 over 70 games with eight home runs and 29 RBI’s. The Pirates called up outfielder Ronny Simon to take his roster spot. Simon had been batting .330 for Triple-A Indianapolis this year with 33 stolen bases.
The Pirates also added to the bullpen again Wednesday. The team saw the return of Evan Sisk from the Injured List, and sent Wilbur Dotel back to Indianapolis. Sisk had a 2.23 ERA through more than 36 innings with 43 strikeouts before being sidelined with an elbow injury in late June.
