Slippery Rock Borough will be moving on from its license plate reading cameras.
According to Mayor Jondavid Longo, the borough did not renew their contract with the Automatic License Plate Reader program.
The cameras are typically set up on poles or traffic lights and are used to cross-reference databases that track stolen vehicles, active warrants, and other criminal related activities.
Longo however said these systems “enable warrantless tracking of the movements of every visitor and resident who drives through our community.”
The borough council voted unanimously to end the contract.
