Butler Township is moving forward with the first part of a large undertaking at Preston Park.
At their meeting Monday night, Butler Township Commissioners approved awarding a contract for Phase 1 of the project to W. M. Aiken and Son in the amount of just over $500,000.
This phase includes improving the surface of the road within the park as well as widening the road by an additional four feet to accommodate the heavy equipment necessary in order for two ponds to be dredged in later phases. This phrase also includes the replacement of two culvert pipes with the goal of eliminating the buildup of sediment.
The township expects this phase to be completed by the end of next month and Preston Park will continue to remain open to the public during the work.
