Teachers in Freeport rallied for a new contract at last night’s school board meeting.
The union was at the meeting with a petition for a new contract for teachers, counselors, and school nurses.
The union has been without a contract since the end of June.
“After negotiating in good faith for a majority of this year, we were unable to reach an agreement before the school year began. Our contract expired and 132 dedicated members of FEA continue to work and serve the district as costs go up and our pay is frozen at 2025 levels,” Rosie Kobelenske, president and teacher at South Buffalo Elementary, said in a statement.
“We hope the District will use our upcoming bargaining sessions to tackle the remaining issues at the table so we can ratify a new contract that will attract and retain staff for years to come,” Kobelenske said.
There are two bargaining sessions set for this month and one in October.
