The Department of Justice has announced two Dominican Republic men have been sentenced for a grandparent fraud scheme.
On Tuesday, 35-year-old Luis Rodriguez of Cleveland, Ohio and 26-year-old Engels Valerio of Paterson, New Jersey were sentenced to two years of imprisonment and three years of supervised release.
According to the release, scammers in the Dominican Republic would pretend to be a grandparent’s grandchild and have ride share delivers to Rodriguez and Valerio.
The two men would then deposit the money into a bank account and send some money back to the DR.
