Butler County Children and Youth Services are seeing a larger part of their budget dedicated toward shelter, placement, and foster care.
CYS submitted their needs-based budget for this upcoming year and officials say they are seeing a major rise in the cost to shelter and place children, along with providing foster care.
Some placements costs are in excess of $1,000 due to the specialized care.
Out of the $25 million budget, $9.4 million goes toward placements of all types and juvenile probation. That number is projected to rise nearly $10 million in next year’s budget.
The county has been able to maximize state and federal dollars to help minimize the impact on how much the county spends.
