Air quality concerns have led to the Department of Environmental Protection to issue an air quality alert today.
A Code Red Air Quality Action Day is in effect for Butler and the rest of Pennsylvania, signifying air pollution levels are unhealthy for all.
Officials say residents should limit time outdoors exercising or undertaking any strenuous activities, especially older people, children, and those with lung or respiratory conditions.
This is as a result of wildfire smoke from Canada and Minnesota but residents can help by avoiding the use of gas-powered lawn and garden equipment; reducing or eliminating fireplace and wood stove use; and avoiding the open burning of leaves, trash, and other materials.
