State police and PennDOT are continuing to monitor driving in construction zones this summer.
It’s called Operation Yellow Jacket, and it’ll happen in Butler County over the summer.
Police will be stationed inside PennDOT vehicles in order to monitor drivers in work zones for speeding, tailgating, distracted driving, and other violations.
Operation Yellow Jacket is a part of broader effort to make work zones safer. Last year, there were nearly 1,400 crashes in work zones, resulting in 12 deaths and 49 serious injuries.
State law requires drivers to slow down, turn on their headlights, and obey all posted speed limits and traffic patterns when driving through work zones.
