In PIAA tournament results from Monday:
Baseball:
–Butler defeated Mifflin County 2-1 in the First Round of the Class 6A state tournament. Kyle Casteel pitched a complete-game for Butler. He allowed four hits and a walk, while striking out five. Mavrik Clement hit a solo home run. Boden Lenyk drove in the game-winning run in the seventh inning, giving Butler its first state tournament victory in 34 years. The Golden Tornado will now face Chambersburg Thursday in the quarterfinal round.
–Southern Columbia defeated Moniteau 10-1 in the opening round of the Class 2A tournament.
–Also from District 9 – Redbank Valley fell to Neshannock 3-2 in the 2A First Round.
Softball:
–Harbor Creek ousted North Catholic in the PIAA Class 4A First Round following a 3-2 victory Monday.
–In Class 5A, Shaler defeated Red Land 10-0 in five innings. The Titans get Baldwin Thursday.
