Butler wrestler Santino Sloboda won his second Western Regional title Saturday with a 7-0 win at 127 pounds. It was his second straight championship win over Trinity’s Dom Canali, after shutting him out last week for the WPIAL title. Sloboda heads to the state championships in Hershey later this week.
The PIHL playoffs reach the Quarterfinal Round this week. In Class 3A, undefeated Seneca Valley will meet Upper St. Clair tonight at the Baeirl Ice Complex at 7pm. In Class 1A, Mars will face-off against Plum tonight after the Seneca Valley game at 9pm.
Butler will meet Canon-McMillan Tuesday at Printscape Arena. Face-off is 7pm.
The Butler distance runner Brendan Eicher had a runner-up performance at the state championships at Penn State Saturday. Eicher ran the mile in a time of 4:17.50. Senior Jason Wick finished fifth in the Pole Vault with a personal best jump of 14′ 6″.
