Two children in Pennsylvania have died due to measles.
The state Department of Health confirmed the deaths this morning, saying two children from Lancaster County died from the disease. Health officials say the two children were not vaccinated.
These are the first deaths attributed to measles in Pennsylvania in 35 years.
Health Secretary Dr. Debra Bogen issued a statement following the deaths of the children.
“My deepest sympathies are with the loved ones who are facing this unimaginable loss,” Bogen said. “Because measles was largely eliminated in the Commonwealth for more than three decades, people are not familiar with this disease and don’t fully understand the potential severity of the illness.”
DOH has confirmed 393 cases in 29 counties thus far in 2026.
